** Last year we had an 8th grade parent there for pictures to assist and it worked out wonderfully. We would love to have that happen again this year so please let us know if you’d be in interested in attending!

Dear 8th Grade Parents,

On behalf of the Wanaque PTA and your 8th Grade Head Committee Chairs, we would like to welcome you to 8th grade!   This is going to be such an exciting and fun year!  There’s a lot to do both upfront and behind the scenes.

There are several ways we will reach out to you to keep you informed of upcoming events and help that is needed.  We will post information via the PTA website, via the Wanaque PTA Facebook page and by email.  Ms. Sisco will be posting important dates/details on her Homework Hero page, so please check it often.  It is important that you supply us with an email address.  You can send an email to Katie.Kennedy01@gmail.com.  Please include parent(s) name(s), child’s name and any other email addresses we should add to the distribution list. We need your help. Any amount of time you could would be appreciated!

Below you will find a list of events our committee is responsible for.  Take a moment to look it over, decide where and how you would like to volunteer and be sure to sign up.

Wanaque School PTA 8th Grade Activities

Mural — Each year the graduating class leaves its mark in the halls of Wanaque School by creating a Mural.  Our Art teacher handles all the student participation, buying the paint and other art supplies.   The students begin work on the mural in the spring.  This committee requires one chair and no volunteers.  Your responsibility would be to be the point person for the Art teacher…collect the reimbursements from her so she can get reimbursed for the supplies she purchased and to purchase the snacks/drinks which PTA provides each time the kids meet to create the mural.

T-shirts — The Haskell and Wanaque committee t-shirt chairs will work together to design and have made, the Class of 2016 t-shirts that 8th graders from both schools will wear on the 8th grade trip.

Brunch — Each year, we provide the graduating class with a brunch to allow students the opportunity to get together to sign each other’s yearbook.  The chair is responsible for submitting the request to the principal for the date and the time, submitting the work order to custodians for the table set up, ordering/ensuring the delivery of the brunch, decorating (usually graduation tablecloth/plates /utensils/napkin/balloons from the Awards night can be used etc) and clean up.  The chair needs to make sure he/she has arranged for enough parent volunteers the day of …5 volunteers is plenty.

Awards — Chair and committee are responsible for creating the Awards invitation to be sent home to all 8th grade families, decorating the stage with balloons and tulle the day of, submitting work order for three tables for the night of awards , getting all refreshments, graduation cake, desserts/ paper goods and clean up.   You must enlist the help of two or three 7th grade parents for the night of so they can man the refreshments so you can enjoy the ceremony.  It is a good way to show them what they will need to do the next year.

Dance — This committee requires everyone on the entire 8th grade committee to help. The chairperson will oversee all volunteers, work with the Haskell school committee throughout.  Responsibilities will include, getting decorations for the gym once theme is voted on, centerpieces for the tables at the dance.  Making sure Board of Ed has DJ, decorating the night before and morning of the dance, clean up, favors, etc.

Graduation — Make sure stage is decorated.  Order flowers for teachers and flowers for students to wear.  Purchase teachers gifts for the 4 teachers that go above and beyond for in helping plan and coordinate 8th grade activities. $25.00 each. Purchase the Gift cards for the Realization Awards.  There are usually four students that get this.  The teachers choose them.


Slide show — Gather pictures of the kids from kindergarten through 8th grade from parents and create a dvd with music to be played at the Awards night.  Purchase dvds and make copies for every student to keep.  Please include their name/homeroom on the back of the photo so they may be returned.

Digital photos (in .jpg format) that are small enough can be emailed to WanaqueSlideshow@gmail.com. If you have a lot of digital photos, you can copy them to a thumb drive or CD, and drop them off in the collection box in the Main Office. If you have actual photos, please mark the back with your child’s name, so they can be returned to you once they’ve been scanned. They can also be dropped off in the manila envelope provided, in our collection box in the Main Office.  PLEASE CLEARLY MARK ON ENVELOPE THAT PICS ARE FOR SLIDESHOW, NOT YEARBOOK, AND VICE VERSA.

Since there are so many memories to include, please send in any photos you’d like to be included as soon as possible. This way, we’ll have time to create something our children can take with them and always remember their days at Wanaque School! Of course, you can continue sending photos as the year goes on, too.

In addition, we require your permission in writing, to be able include pictures of your 8th grader. Please complete and return the attached page to the office  labeled 8th grade slide show.

Slideshow Chairs

Yearbook — Gather baby pictures for the yearbook and send them in with your children to be given to Ms. Sisco's attention, make sure you label your child's name/homeroom on the back so they may be returned.  Please mark that they are for the yearbook and not the slideshow.  Suggested size:  Wallet size to 3x5.  Also make sure that the picture of your child is large enough to clearly see them — and is a clear picture as they will be scanning in/cropping for yearbook use.    If you have a clear/scan photo you can send as an attachment to Ms. Sisco at:    ksisco@wanaqueps.org  (Age is up to you.  We were told to supply a baby picture to be used on a page to guess whose photo it is, so don't send in one where they are too old).
