BOE President's Message / Sept 2011

On behalf of the Board of Education, I am happy to welcome all our teachers, students and parents to the new school year.

This year, because of the support of our community and the Board’s prudent financial planning, the Board was able to restore some of the positions that were lost due to the tremendous budgetary constraints previously placed on us. Specifically, the Board was able to restore a guidance counselor (which now allows us to have one guidance counselor in each school) and two reading recovery specialists (one for each school). Further, these positions, which impact every student’s education, were restored without increasing the tax levy beyond the state recommended limit of 2%.

Even with these accomplishments, rest assured, the Board continues to work tirelessly to maintain and improve the high standards we have all set for our schools. Such hard work is incomplete without your involvement. Understanding that we all have very busy lives, the Board has established several ways to help you get involved with your school. In addition to our regular monthly Board meetings, the Board’s Community Outreach Committee also meets monthly with members of the community to discuss whatever issues arise, answer any questions and listen to your ideas. Needless to say, all are strongly encouraged to attend these meetings. Additionally, I encourage everyone to visit the Board’s website, www.wanaque.k12.nj.us, where you will find, among other things, the dates for these upcoming meetings.

As always, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me any questions or suggestions you may have at radams@wanaque.k12.nj.us.
